What is Julian House?

At its foundation Julian House was set up to offer direct support to some of the most marginalised people in society – the homeless. Initially this was limited to offering food and shelter. Over time other projects and services have been developed which not only address the symptoms of homelessness but also the underlying reasons why men and women are forced onto the streets. Indeed, projects such as the Meaningful Occupation Project - Space2 - are targeted at preventing people becoming homeless by engaging them in meaningful activities, training and preparation for employment.

Today the charity operates more than 10 projects across Bath and North East Somerset and ensures rough sleepers in Wiltshire, Swindon, Somerset and North Somerset can be reported by the public through their helpline and website. Users of their services include rough sleepers, women escaping domestic violence, ex-offenders, the long term unemployed, people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. At any one time over 100 clients are being helped by the staff team – men and women who are homeless, have recently been homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless. The work is often challenging and the staff and volunteers work under considerable pressure with many positive outcomes achieved.

Our Involvement

We support the work of Julian House in a variety of different ways, including collecting toiletries at Christmas, giving our Christmas Day collection and by taking part in the Big Sleep Out.

The Big Sleep Out involves spending just one night under the stars in Alice Park to raise vital funds to help those who are forced to sleep out every night. Our young people and leaders take part in this annual event every year, whatever the weather and temperature, with only a sleeping bag, cardboard and whatever they're wearing for warmth (which normally includes a smile).
